#YouToo: HR, DEI Needs Your Vocal Presence

In this episode of Inclusion Unscripted, join Margaret Spence as she discusses why Human Resource Leaders must support DEI More.

The question is, does HR foster the level of inclusion to make a difference? What are you doing as an HR leader to support greater inclusion? What should diverse people and women expect from you? Margaret Spence says in this episode, ”If we cannot count on you, then it’s time for HR to move out of that way to allow greater progress.” Human Resources leaders must be vocally present for diversity to thrive.

We can’t begin to talk about DEI success without mentioning Human Resources. Today, we’re going to unpack the role HR plays in fostering, empowering, or roadblocking diversity initiatives. This episode – is us too, not them, Us, human resources!

The HR role within organizations can befriend the concept of building a more inclusive workplace or move to control and script every aspect of DEI without making any substantive change. The essential tenets of HR are fostering and creating a culture of inclusion that values diversity, equality, equity, and empowerment. The question is, does HR foster the level of inclusion to make a difference? What are you doing as an HR leader to support greater inclusion? What should diverse people and women expect from you?

In the episode, we will ask powerful questions specifically focused on #HR #HumanResources to unpack how HR should or could support greater inclusion. The pandemic has shown us that as HR leaders, our voice is needed now more than ever.

As an HR leader, tell me a time when the organization or institution you work for successfully understood the strengths of inclusion.

  • Does the organization have unique and inclusive human resources practices, and whom do those practices serve?
  • How do leaders talk about DEI – specifically inclusion?
  • Tell us a time as an HR professional when you fostered greater inclusion by using your voice to advocate for or on behalf of marginalizing employees?
  • How is inclusion interwoven into the process, structures, and culture within your organization?
  • If you cannot answer any of these questions, why can’t you?
